- Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12, based on Larry David’s life, will be released in February, according to HBO’s content chief.
- The future of the show beyond season 12 is uncertain, as David’s contract with HBO expires in 2023 and it will be up to him to decide.
- If season 12 is the last, Curb Your Enthusiasm will be remembered as one of the great comedies of the Peak TV era, with hopes for a hilarious finale.
Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 gets a release window update, and it’s arriving soon. Coming off the massive success of Seinfeld, the sitcom’s co-creator Larry David headed to HBO to develop a new series based roughly on his own life as a super-rich TV producer. Over two decades after the show’s premiere, David’s delightfully cranky comedy about a heightened version of himself continues to roll on, with season 12 wrapping filming back in March of 2023.
It’s yet to be seen whether Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 will be the last go-around for David and company, but what is answered is roughly when the new season will hit HBO, as content chief David Bloys has revealed a February release window for the latest run of Curb episodes (via Variety). The specific release date was not pinned down by Bloys, who during a Thursday press event made wide-ranging remarks about a variety of HBO shows and their release statuses admit the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Will Larry David Return For Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 13
The possibility of Curb Your Enthusiasm season 13 seemed dim after statements made back in March by several of the show’s producers, who teased on social media that season 12 would be the last go-around for the series. To cast further doubt on the acclaimed comedy’s future, Variety reports that David’s contract with HBO expires in 2023, meaning that for season 13 to happen, he would have to re-up with the network.
Bloys for his part will give no assurances about the future of HBO’s partnership with David, telling Thursday’s press event that whether Curb continues is all up to the show’s creator (via Variety):
“We generally leave that up to Larry, and I think he’s thinking about what he wants to do. He knows it’s kind of been an open invitation, so I think he’s going to decide whether he wants to continue or make this the final season. I would guess before it airs, he’ll decide.”
If Curb Your Enthusiasm does come to an end after season 12, the show will go down in history as one of the great comedies of the Peak TV era. Curb may have experienced some dips in quality over the course of its run, but David always seems to find the spark again, coming back from weak seasons with strong ones. Should season 12 mark the final go-around for the iconic show, the hope is that it will go out with a hilarious bang. Given the unpredictability of its creator, just about anything could happen to the Larry David character in his 12th – and maybe last – season of curmudgeonly antics.
