David Warner Could Face Severe Sanction From ICC For His Outburst On Umpire Joel Wilson-TGN

Australia opener David Warner is likely to face some sanctions from the ICC for his outburst on umpire Joel Wilson during the AUS vs SL World Cup 2023 match in Lucknow on Monday.

It’s been quite a long time since we have seen David Warner this angry and livid. That came about because of umpire Joel Wilson’s contentious call, which many on Twitter said was “horrific” and “very poor” but the Hawkeye technology proved the umpire correct.

Wilson had given David Warner out lbw to an inswing delivery from left-arm Sri Lanka pacer Dilshan Madushanka. Initially, the ball seemed to be sliding down leg and also a bit high in real-time, but Wilson had given the batter out.

Unimpressed with the umpire’s decision, Warner took a review. The ball-tracking, which has already been a controversial topic in this tournament, showed the umpire’s call on hitting and the decision of out from Wilson stayed.

Stunned by the ball-tracking, David Warner was furious and mouthed some anger-filled words toward Wilson. Warner continued to fumingly vent out his frustration as he walked back for the score of 11.

David Warner will lose some match fee: Simon Doull

Many believe that the ICC will penalize David Warner with some match fees and possibly even demerit points.

Former New Zealand pacer and now commentator Simon Doull is confident that the ICC will take some sort of action against the Aussie opener. Doull went after Warner for his reaction at Wilson.

“David Warner will lose some match fee. If he doesn’t then there’s something wrong. The way he turned back and swore at Joel Wilson is… there’s got to be some match fee gone there. This sort of stuff really bugs me. It’s given out, it’s clipping the stumps,” Doull said on Cricbuzz.

“The next time David Warner is fielding, he attempts a run-out and the ball just clips the stumps, the bail falls out, will he go to the batter and say ‘sorry mate, come back? It’s just clipping’. If the ball hits the stumps, it’s out.

“Don’t swear at the umpire. He is looking at it in real time. When I looked at it live, I thought yeah close shout. The umpire is looking at it one time and making the decision. And in the end, his decision proved to be right. It wasn’t a bad decision, it wasn’t wrong.”
