Enola Holmes 3 In Development, Netflix Film Boss Confirms-TGN

  • Netflix confirms Enola Holmes 3 is in development, continuing the success of the Sherlock Holmes spinoff series.
  • Enola Holmes 2 sets the stage for endless possibilities, with Enola now a detective in her own right.
  • Millie Bobby Brown’s growing star power and the franchise’s open possibilities make Enola Holmes 3 highly anticipated.

Netflix confirms the development of Enola Holmes 3. Starring Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock Holmes’ eponymous sister, Enola Holmes first debuted on Netflix in 2020. Enola Holmes was then followed up by the sequel Enola Holmes 2 in 2022, and Enola Holmes 3 has since been rumored.

Enola Holmes 3 is now on its way, confirms Head of Netflix Film Scott Stuber. In conversation with Collider, Stuber verified the development of Enola Holmes 3 while praising “homegrown star,” Brown. According to Stuber, the screenplay for Enola Holmes 3 is currently in the works. Check out the full quote from Stuber below:

You know, she’s such a great homegrown star for us. I mean, obviously, Stranger Things is huge for us in that, and watching her grow as an actress. We have a film called Damsel with her in the spring, which I’m really excited about, (from) Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. Then, getting that character right. The Holmes IP is weirdly elastic. Obviously, Warner Bros. did an incredible job with Downey and Jude Law, so this idea that we can extend that IP with her is exciting. So, we’re working once again on a screenplay to try to get that. But yes, aspiration. I’d like to do another one.

Why Enola Holmes 3 Is An Exciting Sherlock Holmes Spinoff

While the specifics of Enola Holmes 3 are still developing, Enola Holmes 2 definitely left the door open for a sequel. With Enola now a detective in her own right, the possibilities for Enola Holmes 3 are seemingly endless, as Enola could take on copious mysteries to come, as alluded to by Stuber in his assessment of the Holmes franchise as “weirdly elastic.”

Enola Holmes came at a time when other key Sherlock properties had reached their end. The hit BBC series Sherlock had its fourth and final season in 2017 after only 15 episodes with the beloved co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. In a similar vein, the Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law version of Sherlock Holmes had its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in 2011, and has not yet received its long-rumored follow-up. Enola Holmes swooped in not only to fill a Holmsian void but also to offer a fresh, young perspective on the franchise.

Going into Enola Holmes 3, Brown is an even more seasoned star than she was at the series’ inception. The combination of her stardom and the franchise’s open possibilities could lead to great things as Enola Holmes 3 continues its development.

Every Sherlock Holmes story written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle entered the public domain in 2023.
