  • The digital release of The Equalizer 3 took place without any prior announcement from Sony Pictures and is now available for purchase on various platforms.
  • Despite being the lowest-grossing film in the action trilogy, The Equalizer 3 received positive reviews from critics, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 75%.

The Equalizer 3 is now available on video-on-demand after the threequel grossed $186 million at the box office. Released in theaters on September 1, the third and final installment in the action trilogy, directed once again by Antoine Fuqua, finds Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall retiring to Southern Italy where he must help his new friends break free from the control of the Camorra. The Equalizer 3 cast reunites Washington with his Man on Fire co-star Dakota Fanning and also includes Eugenio Mastrandrea, David Denman, Gaia Scodellaro, and Remo Girone.

Now, two months after the threequel was released in theaters, The Equalizer 3‘s digital release date has arrived. Without any prior announcement from Sony Pictures, The Equalizer 3 is now available for purchase on digital platforms, including Apple TV, Prime Video, Google Play, Vudu, Microsoft, Direct TV, and YouTube. Initial reports claimed it would be released in October. Additionally, the 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD will be released a week later on November 14.

How Did The Equalizer 3 Perform In Theaters?

With the threequel now on digital, The Equalizer 3 has officially ended its box office with $186 million grossed worldwide which, against a $70 million budget, is enough to be considered a commercial success. This, however, is the lowest-grossing installment in Washington and Fuqua’s action trilogy. The Equalizer, which was loosely based on the 1980s television series of the same name, was released in 2014 and ended its box office run with just over $192 million grossed worldwide. The sequel was released two years later and saw a slight dip by grossing $190 million worldwide.

The Equalizer and The Equalizer 2 were produced on roughly the same budget of $70 million.

Despite being the lowest-grossing installment, The Equalizer 3‘s Rotten Tomatoes score set a series high at 75 percent. The threequel received mostly positive reviews from critics who praised its cathartic action, which helped make up for its formulaic story, compared to the first two films which received 61 and 52 percent scores respectively. The threequel’s audience score also set a series high at 94 percent. With The Equalizer 3 now available on digital platforms, audiences can continue enjoying Washington’s vigilante hero at home.
