A set photo from The Fall of the House of Usher reveals a double Easter egg for a past Mike Flanagan horror film. Based on the eponymous short story and other works by Edgar Allan Poe, the latest Netflix horror series from Flanagan follows a family dynasty whose heirs begin dying in mysterious ways. The Fall of the House of Usher cast includes Lulu Wilson as a teenage Madeline Usher, who previously starred in Flanagan’s 2016 horror film, Ouija: Origin of Evil.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Mike Flanagan shared a set photo from The Fall of the House of Usher with Lulu Wilson that reveals a double Easter egg for the Flanaverse. Check out the post below:

The photo shows Wilson holding the actual board and planchette from Ouija: Origin of Evil which can be seen on screen in The Fall of the House of Usher episode 1. Flanagan’s full caption reads, “On set of THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER: an amazing reunion with Lulu Wilson and the actual screen-used board and planchette from OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL. You can them all together on screen in episode 1.”

Other Fall of the House of Usher Easter Eggs

Other than the board from Ouija: Origin of Evil, Fall of the House of Usher contains many more Easter eggs from the Flanaverse, the term used to describe his collective body of movies and TV shows and the recurring actors in them. One of the most obvious Easter eggs is when Lenore and Morrie are browsing Netflix and come across Flanagan’s 2017 horror film, Gerald’s Game, which features a few of his frequent collaborators. The Lasser Glass from Flanagan’s 2013 film Oculus appears in every one of his projects, and Fall of the House of Usher continues that tradition.

Other than Easter eggs for the Flanaverse, Fall of the House of Usher contains perhaps even more hidden details that reference Edgar Allan Poe. For instance, Lenore and Morrie also watch The Raven on Netflix, a 1935 film based on Poe’s 1845 poem of the same name. The company name, Fortunato Pharmaceuticals, is taken directly from the name of the victim in Poe’s 1846 short story, “The Cask of Amontillado,” who is offered fancy wine as a trick, similar to Roderick Usher drinking the expensive cognac at the beginning of The Fall of the House of Usher.

The Fall of the House of Usher is streaming on Netflix.
