Jurassic Park was recently re-released in theaters, and it ended up beating both The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Little Mermaid at the box office. Directed by Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park was released in 1993, spawning a successful franchise that now consists of six feature films. Spielberg’s original movie remains not only the best entry in the franchise, but one of the most important blockbuster movies ever made.

Now, according to numbers from Box Office Mojo, Jurassic Park‘s 30th anniversary theatrical re-release saw the movie pull in over $1.7 million the weekend of August 25-27, beating The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($604.5 thousand) and Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid ($462.2 thousand). The latter two films both hit theaters earlier this year but re-released in theaters this past weekend in celebration of National Cinema Day, with the above figures only including revenue earned over the two days listed.

More to come…
