Star Trek: Prodigy star Kate Mulgrew thanks Netflix for picking up the beloved all-ages animated series after fans’ #SaveStarTrekProdigy campaign rescued the series from cancelation. In October, Netflix officially became the new streaming home of Star Trek: Prodigy four months after Paramount+ purged the show from its service. Now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, Kate Mulgrew is finally able to speak publicly about Star Trek: Prodigy joining Netflix.

On Twitter/X, Kate Mulgrew posted her thanks to Netflix for becoming the new streaming home of Star Trek: Prodigy, which will drop all 20 season 1 episodes on Christmas Day, December 25th. Mulgrew also reminds fans that Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will then release on Netflix in 2024. Check out her post below:

As Kate Mulgrew reminds fans in her post, she portrayed Galina “Red” Reznikov for 7 seasons of Orange Is The New Black. Returning as Admiral Janeway in Star Trek: Prodigy will be a streaming homecoming, of sorts, for Mulgrew.

Admiral Janeway’s Mission In Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2

The USS Voyager-A will mount a mission to rescue Captain Chakotay

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will start with a clear mission statement as Admiral Kathryn Janeway plans to rescue Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran), her dear friend and former First Officer from Star Trek: Voyager. Chakotay is trapped on the Vau N’Akat homeworld of Solum, but he’s in an alternate 25th-century future. The destruction of the USS Protostar at the end of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 created a temporal wormhole that will allow Janeway to travel to Solum, but the Admiral can’t anticipate what kind of hostile reception they will get from the notoriously anti-Starfleet Vau N’Akat.

Admiral Janeway is bringing the young former crew of the USS Protostar as her warrant officers, as Dal R’El (Brett Gray) and his friends hope this will enable their entry into Starfleet Academy.

One of the cool twists to open up Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 is Admiral Janeway will bring in The Doctor (Robert Picardo) to oversee Dal, Zero (Angus Imrie), Murf (Dee Bradley Baker), Jankom Pog (Jason Mantzoukas), and Rok’Tahk (Rylee Alazraqui). The Doctor also unveiled Janeway’s new starship, the Lamarr Class USS Voyager-A. It’s a cool setup for what is bound to be a universe of surprises that promise to tie into the rest of the Star Trek franchise in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2.

Star Trek: Prodigy premieres on Netflix on December 25, 2023.
