The first official Lift trailer sees Kevin Hart attempt to steal a plane from 40,000 feet in the air. Lift is an upcoming Netflix original that is slated to premiere next year. The heist comedy comes two years after Hart signed a deal with Netflix to produce and star in four feature films, and also nabbed a first-look agreement for his studio, HartBeat Productions. Since then, he has starred in and produced Fatherhood and Me Time, but his latest looks very different from his previous projects.

Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Lift, which sees Hart portraying a master thief and formulating a plan to steal a plane mid-flight.

While Hart’s two most recent Netflix movies saw him take on the role of a family man, this film puts him in a more nefarious role. In Lift, he and his crew are facing possible jail time for several crimes, including identity theft, money laundering, and transportation of stolen property. However, he’s so confident in his abilities as a thief that he fully believes it’s possible to steal a plane while it’s in the air, teasing a wild heist.

Everything We Know About Lift So Far

Kevin Hart Cyrus Whitaker Lift

Lift will premiere exclusively on Netflix on January 12, 2024. As mentioned above, it will follow Hart in the role of master thief Cyrus Whitaker. While Whitaker has accrued a devoted crew and enormous wealth from his criminal activities, his ex-girlfriend Gabby (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) has joined the FBI and is now threatening him with prison time unless he can steal $500 million in gold from a plane. It’s not long before he decides, instead of just grabbing the gold, to go with a plan to steal the entire plane right out of the sky.

Meanwhile, Lift has quite the cast stacked up. In addition to Hart and Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, and Kim Yoon-ji have all signed on to portray Hart’s crew. Also appearing in the film are Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno, Sam Worthington, Burn Gorman, and Viveik Kalra. The director is F. Gary Gray, best known for his directorial work on The Fate and the Furious, Straight Outta Compton, and Men in Black: International.

Lift isn’t Corberó’s first heist project, as she previously starred in the crime drama series Money Heist for four years.

Lift was initially supposed to premiere in August, but it was seemingly delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. While the strike is still ongoing, there are reports that it is close to concluding. However, it remains to be seen if the strike will end before the movie’s release. Given its star-studded cast, it’s the kind of film Netflix would likely want to hold off on until the actors are permitted to help promote the film. If SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP strike a fair deal soon, Lift should be prepared to land on Netflix early next year.
