Kevin Feige teases multiverse crossovers in a new official statement about the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s timeline. Years removed from the Infinity Saga, the MCU is currently deep into the Multiverse Saga. While it is plagued with many criticisms, one of its biggest appeals is the promise of a massive crossover in its culmination. Although that’s still a long way to go, Feige suggests that it will actually happen.

In a statement released in the new book, Marvel Studios’ The Marvel Cinematic Universe – An Official Timeline (via The Direct), Feige addresses the Sony and Fox Marvel universes and confirms that they are canon to the MCU. He goes beyond that saying that a convergence among them may be happening in the coming years. Read his full quote below:

“On the Multiverse note, we recognize that there are stories—movies and series that are canonical to Marvel but were created by different storytellers during different periods of Marvel’s history. The timeline presented in this book is specific to the MCU’s Sacred Timeline through Phase 4. But, as we move forward and dive deeper into the Multiverse Saga, you never know when timelines may just crash or converge (hint, hint/spoiler alert).”

1 How The Multiverse Can Fix Marvel’s Timeline Issues

MCU Multiverse Kang

The MCU’s micro-continuity has always been problematic, but the introduction of the multiverse in the Multiverse Saga has made things a bit more confusing. Several projects have already tackled the idea, with both Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home offering an idea of what the concept actually looks like in reality. Among all the MCU Multiverse Saga endeavors, however, Loki is best poised to set up the reckoning for the Marvel multiverse.

That being said, it also has the ability to fix many of the bigger issues that plague the franchise. As the dangers of multiple realities colliding with each other become increasingly clear, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ overall goal may be the preserve the Sacred Timeline and prevent any multiverse catastrophe from happening. Currently, only the God of Mischief is aware of the imminent threat posed by Kang the Conqueror who is doing something about it. However, it’s safe to assume that as the MCU goes on, his Earth-bound allies will be aware of how dire the situation is.

Addressing the multiverse could mean that previously-separated franchises be integrated into the Sacred Timeline or per reports, pave the way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s soft reboot. Whichever it is, it offers Marvel Studios a way to fix a lot of issues that hamper its canon. From there, fans can expect a more streamlined universe.
