Mortal Kombat 2‘s Johnny Cage actor shares a set photo confirming that filming has resumed. A sequel to the 2021 reboot, the upcoming movie will introduce the martial arts movie star Johnny Cage, as teased by the first film’s ending, played by The Boys star Karl Urban. The cast also includes more newcomers and a slew of returning stars. The sequel started filming in June, but was swiftly suspended the following month due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which ended on November 9.

Now, on Instagram, Urban shared a set photo confirming that filming on Mortal Kombat 2 has resumed following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Check out his post below:

The photo shows Urban standing alongside several of his Mortal Kombat 2 co-stars in front of Mehcad Brooks’ trailer, who plays Jax Briggs. The Johnny Cage actor captioned the photo, “We’re back baby! MK2. Let’s go!! Love this cast.”

Everything We Know About The Mortal Kombat 2 Cast

Other than Urban as Johnny Cage, other newcomers to the Mortal Kombat 2 cast include Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and CJ Bloomfield as Baraka. Returning from the first Mortal Kombat film is Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Brooks as Jax Briggs, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Noob Saibot, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Josh Lawson as Kano, and Max Huang as Kung Lao.

Damon Herriman, who voiced Kabal in 2021’s Mortal Kombat, has returned to play a different character, Quan Chi, in the sequel. However, given how famous Johnny Cage is in the Mortal Kombat canon, he is the most anticipated character being introduced in the sequel. Director Simon McQuoid decided that given his “giant personality,” which would throw the movie out of balance, Cage wouldn’t be included in the first film but rather set up by the Mortal Kombat ending, allowing the sequel’s screenwriter Jeremy Slater to introduce him in Mortal Kombat 2, though the exact extent of his role remains unclear.

Mortal Kombat (2021) is streaming on Max.
