How My Life with the Walter Boys Went from Wattpad to Netflix
My Life with the Walter Boys saw unconventional beginnings on its path to becoming a Netflix show. Written by Novak, My Life with the Walter Boys started as a novel on the free, open-access website Wattpad. Known primarily for fanfiction and steamy romance content, Wattpad is ripe with messy love triangles similar to that of My Life with the Walter Boys, but few of its works gain the same kind of traction as this novel did.
My Life with the Walter Boys lucked out in that it caught the attention of not only Netflix, but of the producer of one of Netflix’s more popular romance films: The Kissing Booth. The Kissing Booth was a huge hit when it dropped on Netflix in 2018, spawning sequels in 2020 and 2021. With a member of The Kissing Booth team on its side, My Life with the Walter Boys could have hope of achieving similar fame.
My Life with the Walter Boys comes at a time when Netflix’s teen romance content is extremely trendy. Beyond The Kissing Booth, Netflix also gained views through To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and its two sequels, as well as the TV series Never Have I Ever. Introducing a complex new love triangle and romance protagonist, My Life with the Walter Boys could ride this romance wave and gain success on Netflix.
