Paddington 3 gets an official release update along with a teaser video. Based on the beloved book series British author Michael Bond, the Paddington live action series began in 2014 with Paddington. Paddington was followed up in 2017 by the well-reviewed Paddington 2, and a third Paddington film was since thought to be on the books.

Now, the official Paddington Movie Twitter account reveals that Paddington 3 will hit theaters in 2025. According to the post, the Paddington threequel will be titled Paddington in Peru. Paddington in Peru will come to theaters on January 17, 2025.

Along with the release announcement, the Paddington update included a short teaser video of the beloved bear. In it, Paddington reveals himself behind a shield of marmalade that he promptly wipes off the camera lens and licks off of his paws. After doing so, the backdrop reveals a mountainous Peru behind him.

How Paddington 2 Sets Up Paddington in Peru Perfectly

Ben Whishaw as Paddington

While Paddington Bear is primarily known for his romps around London, the bear actually hails from Peru originally. This origin story is revealed in the first Paddington movie, before the bear is sent by his Aunt Lucy to live in London, where he meets the Brown family. His Peruvian origins are further recalled at the end of Paddington 2, when Aunt Lucy shows up at the Brown household.

Paddington 2 thus well sets up the next Paddington film, as Aunt Lucy’s return already hinted at a plot that would return to the bear’s roots. Paddington 2 also left audiences wanting more Paddington due to the sheer quality of the sequel. In Paddington 2, director Paul King showed his knack for a mock prison-escape film ripe with homage to auteurs like Wes Anderson. What results is a sequel that transcends the inherent cuteness of Paddington Bear adventuring through the UK and becomes a thoroughly cinematic journey filled with laughs, exhilarating chase sequences, and the strength of familial love.

After the rapturous journey of Paddington 2 came that ending reveal of Aunt Lucy. This cliffhanger ending seemed almost surely to plant the seed for Paddington 3. Though the film is still over a year out, viewers will finally get their payoff as Paddington in Peru sees the marmalade-loving bear on his next escapade.
