Sheila’s world is finally falling apart in an exclusive Physical season 3 clip. Led by Rose Byrne, the dark comedy show has revolved around a housewife in ’80s San Diego who sought out to overcome her unsatisfying marriage, dangerous relationship with a real-estate mogul, and her inner demons to become a fitness icon. Physical season 3 finds Byrne’s Sheila Rubin at the height of her success, only to see it challenged by a rising industry newcomer, Zooey Deschanel’s Kelly Kilmartin, resulting in an epic finale to the acclaimed show.
Ahead of the series finale, Screen Rant is proud to present an exclusive Physical season 3 clip.
The video, as seen above, finds Deirdre Friel’s Greta trying to convince Sheila to take a deal with a major exercise brand after pulling a number of strings to revive the offer from the company. When Sheila refuses to take the offer, Greta indicates a changing of alliances to Deschanel’s Kelly, teasing her interest in the deal and praise from Sheila’s rival for her business acumen.
How Physical’s Kelly Could Put Deschanel On A New Career Path
Deschanel’s turn as rival Kelly in Physical season 3 marked a major return for the actor as it was her first major TV role since the beloved sitcom, New Girl, came to a close in 2018. The Emmy and Golden Globe nominee has, instead, been lending her talents to reality shows in the years that followed, including the short-lived reboot of The Celebrity Dating Game, which she co-hosted with fellow musician Michael Bolton, and as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.
In addition to being a welcome return to fiction-based acting for the star, Physical season 3 has also opened an exciting new door for Deschanel in the form of more antagonistic roles. Since her breakout appearances in the Will Ferrell-led Elf and indie drama All the Good Girls, Deschanel has generally taken more of protagonist characters on both the big and small screens, with New Girl in particular allowing her to lean into some of her quirkier sensibilities to bring Jessica Day to life for its seven-season run.
While some of her protagonist roles have seen Deschanel show somewhat of a deadpan side to herself, namely Elf‘s Jovie and Our Idiot Brother‘s Nat, she’s still never gone full villain for a part, making her turn as Physical season 3’s Kelly an exciting new direction for the star. While it’s unclear if she’ll continue her TV acting return after the Apple TV+ show’s final season, one can hope that if she does, she looks to continue this exploration into new territory.
Physical season 3’s finale premieres on Apple TV+ on August 23.
