Jason Alexander, who played George Constanza, shares his baffled response to the rumored Seinfeld reboot. Airing from 1989 to 1998, the enduringly popular sitcom follows a fictionalized version of Jerry Seinfeld alongside his friends George, Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), and Kramer (Michael Richards). In October, a total of 25 years after its divisive series finale, the show’s co-creator and lead star teased that a secret Seinfeld project is in the works during a stand-up set.

Now, during an interview with Extra, Alexander reacted to the rumored Seinfeld revival. The actor confirmed that he, along with Richards, know nothing about it. Watch a video of the interview or read Alexander’s full response below:

There is only one reason for that rumor. Apparently, at the end of some stand-up thing, (Jerry) went, “Larry (David) and I are thinking of something.” Good for you. I don’t know anything about it… No one called me. Apparently, they don’t need George and they may not need Elaine ’cause Julia (Louis-Dreyfus) and I went, “Do you know anything about this? I don’t know anything about this” and I just talked to Michael (Richards) the other day and I don’t think he knew anything about it.

The Rumored Seinfeld Reboot & Responses Explained

As Alexander explains, the rumor regarding a Seinfeld reboot started when the show’s eponymous co-creator and star made some cryptic comments during a Q&A portion of his stand-up set in Boston on October 7. When asked about his feelings on the show’s divisive ending, Seinfeld seemingly teased that he and co-creator Larry David have a secret project in the works:

I have a little secret for you about the ending. I can’t really tell it, because it is a secret. Here’s what I’ll tell you, but you can’t tell anybody. Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending that hasn’t happened yet. And just what you are thinking about, Larry and I have also been thinking about, so you’ll see… you’ll see.

Louis-Dreyfus was the first to respond to the co-creator’s cryptic comments, saying that she has no inside knowledge of a secret Seinfeld project:

Yeah, I just saw (that news) last night. And I don’t know what the hell he’s talking about.

Alexander is the latest to respond to Seinfeld’s comments, whose sentiments mirror those of Louis-Dreyfus. The actor also revealed that he recently talked to Richards about his upcoming memoir, Entrances and Exits, and he also doesn’t know anything about the secret project. This means that the main Seinfeld cast – Alexander, Louis-Dreyfus, and Richards – each of whom was instrumental to the success of the show, know nothing about the secret project that Seinfeld seemingly teased at a recent stand-up set.

The Seinfeld cast has reunited multiple times since the show ended, most notably for season 7 of David’s HBO show, Curb Your Enthusiasm. A few years later, Seinfeld, Alexander, and Wayne Knight reprised their respective roles in a Super Bowl XLVIII commercial. Regardless of what the secret Seinfeld project is, the show’s creators should inform the cast sooner rather than later so they are no longer in the dark.

Seinfeld seasons 1-9 are streaming on Netflix.
