The stars of Netflix’s Shadow and Bone have shared their reactions to the show’s end. The fantasy show, which ran for two seasons, was based on the young adult fantasy novel trilogy of the same name by Leigh Bardugo. Although the show remained on the bubble for quite some time after season 2 premiered in March of this year, following the end of the dual Hollywood strikes, Netflix elected to cancel Shadow and Bone as well as its proposed spinoff Six of Crows.

In the wake of the cancellation, the Shadow and Bone cast have shared various tributes to the show on social media. At the time of writing, the main cast members who have posted about the show are Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Mal Oretsev), Ben Barnes (The Darkling), and Kit Young (Jesper Fahey). Check out their posts below:

On Instagram, Barnes shared a collection of behind-the-scenes photos and videos, sharing that “I was so excited to watch the brilliant, beautiful humans I love so much who made ‘Shadow & Bone’ take this world, their characters and this story onwards. This part of the journey is sorrowful and I am so proud to have been a part of it.

The remainder of the stars shared tributes in their Instagram stories, including Jessie Mei Li, who said that the show was “my first big job & i will never forget it.”

What’s Next For The Shadow And Bone Cast?

Although the Shadow and Bone season 2 ending will now serve as the series finale, the stars of the show all seem to have bright futures ahead of them. Renaux, for instance, is set to appear in the upcoming 2024 blockbuster sequel Alien: Romulus opposite Cailee Spaeny and Isabela Merced. Lei also has a movie on the docket, appearing alongside Tom Hardy, Timothy Olyphant, and Forest Whitaker in the upcoming action-thriller Havoc, directed by The Raid: Redemption‘s Gareth Evans.

Some cast members even have new projects coming out before the end of 2023, like Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), who has a role in the mixed-media show She Creates Change. Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker) will also return to TV this year in The Doll Factory, though his buzziest upcoming title is the 2024 World War II miniseries Masters of the Air, which also stars Oscar nominees Austin Butler and Barry Keoghan. Young also has an upcoming role in the inspirational sports drama The Beautiful Game.

Masters of the Air is a follow-up to the miniseries Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

The only member of the show’s main cast who doesn’t have an official next move announced is Barnes. However, the star has found his way to many different iconic roles in genre titles, including The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, The Punisher, and Westworld, so it seems likely he will continue on strong. While the cast may miss their Shadow and Bone characters and co-stars, it seems that both the big and small screens will be graced with their presence for years to come.
