Spider-Verse Concept Hints 1 Underused Character Could Get A Bigger Role-TGN

  • Concept art suggests that Spider-Byte, an underused character in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, may have a bigger role in the delayed sequel.
  • The concept art showcases Spider-Byte fighting, which hints at a more action-oriented role for the character in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
  • Spider-Byte’s interactions with Miles Morales in the first movie set up a bond and chemistry between the characters, making her an ally and potential twist to the expected romance between Miles and Gwen Stacy in the third Spider-Verse film.

A character that was underused in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse might still get their chance to shine, as concept art from the movie hints that the Spider-Man variant could be more important to the last movie in the trilogy. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse had to juggle several characters as Miles Morales traveled to different universes and discovered the multiverse team of Spider-Man variants known as the Spider Society. Due to that, one interesting hero only had a small role in the film.

On Twitter, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse VFX supervisor Michael Lasker shared concept art from Spider-Byte that makes it seem like the character might have a bigger role in the indefinitely delayed Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

The concept art Lasker shared features multiple shots of Spider-Byte fighting, something she didn’t get to do in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. If Spider-Byte was supposed to just help Miles at the end of the second movie, there would be no need for concept art exploring her fighting style to exist, which hints that Margot Kess might have a bigger, more action-inclined role in the threequel.

How Across The Spider-Verse Also Hints At A Bigger Role For Spider-Byte

While the concept art of Margo fighting is an interesting hint that Spider-Byte might be set to have a bigger role in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the character’s debut movie — Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — also made it seem like the hero was destined to have more to do in the animated franchise than she got to do so far. That comes from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse establishing a bond between Spider-Byte and Miles Morales.

It was evident from the two characters’ interactions in the movie that Margo and Miles have great chemistry, so seeing the characters interact more in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse could even be used by the movie as a twist to the expected Miles and Gwen Stacy romance road. Her fun interactions with Miles and decision to help him go home against Spider-Man 2099’s orders make Spider-Byte a great ally for Miles to have in the third Spider-Verse movie.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse‘s ending set up Spider-Byte’s bigger role in the sequel, with Margot being part of Gwen’s team of multiverse versions of Spider-Man — alongside characters like Peter B. Parker and Spider-Punk — to save Miles from the universe where he is trapped by a Prowler variant of himself. Based on the concept art and the second movie’s ending, Spider-Byte should be getting her hands dirty in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, helping free Miles from his Prowler variant, as well as stopping the Spot from killing his father and dealing with Spider-Man 2099’s likely attempt to interfere again with Miles’ Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse decision.
