Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Update: Production Start & Possible Release Time Frame-TGN

Summary

  • Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 production is reportedly set to begin in December after being postponed due to the Writer’s Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
  • There are clues that suggest the first episode of season 3 will still be directed by Chris Fisher, who posted on Instagram about heading back to Toronto.
  • Paramount+ may decide to split the 10 episodes of season 3 into two halves, releasing 5 episodes in late 2024 and the remaining 5 in 2025, similar to their release strategy for other Star Trek series.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is reportedly ramping up production, and here’s what we know about when filming starts and when the new episodes could be released on Paramount+. Strange New Worlds season 3 was just days away from starting in May when the Writer’s Guild strike halted production. The end of the combined WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes now means film and TV projects can resume, and several clues indicate Strange New Worlds season 3 is starting back up in Toronto in December.

On Instagram, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds producing director Chris Fisher posted that he was heading back to Toronto. Fisher was reportedly set to direct the first episode of Strange New Worlds season 3 in May, and this could still be the plan. Check out Fisher’s post below:

One of the responses to Chris Fisher’s photo is from Jess Bush, who plays Nurse Christine Chapel. Bush also recently shared on her Instagram Stories that she is looking to sublet her apartment in Australia for 6 months starting in December, and Jess is looking for a parking space in Toronto. TrekMovie.com reports that the Directors Guild of Canada listed the restarting of pre-production of Strange New Worlds season 3, which is going under the production name “Lily & Isaac”.

Strange New Worlds season 3 production is reportedly set to start on December 11 and will continue through July 2024.

Can Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Premiere In 2024?

Paramount Plus could have options to release Strange New Worlds season 3.

Considering the extensive post-production work required for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, season 3 may not be released until 2025. However, TrekMovie speculates that it’s possible Paramount+ may decide to split Strange New Worlds season 3’s 10 episodes into halves, with 5 releasing in late 2024, followed by the next 5 in 2025. Paramount+ has used this same release strategy with Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Prodigy, and having at least some of Strange New Worlds season 3 on its 2024 release schedule would crucially bolster Paramount+’s Star Trek content, especially since Strange New Worlds is a bona fide hit with most season 2 episodes charting in Nielsen’s streaming top 10. Currently, only Star Trek: Discovery season 5, which is the final season, and Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 are slated to release as Paramount+’s 2024 Star Trek content.

There’s also fan excitement for Strange New Worlds season 3 to be flamed. Strange New Worlds season 2 ended with a nail-biting cliffhanger that put Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the USS Enterprise in a dire no-win scenario against the Gorn. Strange New Worlds is arguably the most popular Star Trek series on Paramount+ now that Star Trek: Picard season 3 is long over (with no signs that Picard‘s proposed spinoff, Star Trek: Legacy, is moving forward). Once Star Trek: Discovery ends, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is the crown jewel of Star Trek on Paramount+ (if it isn’t already), and new episodes cannot arrive fast enough.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Paramount+.
