Finn Wolfhard confirms that the Stranger Things cast has yet to discover what season 5’s ending will hold, but shares his hopes for the conclusion. The actor has portrayed Mike Wheeler ever since Netflix’s hit sci-fi series began in 2016, playing a young teen who finds himself dragged into a world of superpowered experiments, conspiracies, and otherworldly horrors. Season 5 will bring Stranger Things‘ main storyline to a close, but work on spin-off series and animated projects has begun to expand the series.

Wolfhard opened up to Access Online about the current status of the in-production Stranger Things season 5. Despite filming having occurred for several weeks since work began in January, Wolfhard has revealed that he and the rest of the cast had yet to read the final episode’s script, while explaining that he hopes the series will have a definitive end for each character in the vein of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Check out Wolfhard’s response below:

Truly, I would love a Lord of the Rings style happy ending. They’re waiting to give us the last episode, we’ve read up to the second-to-last episode so we’re all on the edge of our seats to find out what the ending is.

What We Know About Stranger Things Season 5:

Wolfhards comments align with earlier answers given by Stranger Things co-star Milly Bobby Brown, who revealed in early March that she had read only a certain number of scripts at the time while stating she expected nine months of filming. As one of Netflix’s largest and most popular shows, it is understandable why showrunners the Duffer Brothers may be going to great lengths to keep its final act a secret.

As the returning cast made their way to the Stranger Things season 5 set in January, Netflix and the Duffer Brothers have revealed several official glimpses at the production. These included a cast photo featuring the core cast and new addition Linda Hamilton, while also including Amybeth McNulty, suggesting Robin’s (Maya Hawke) crush Vickie may play a larger role following her brief season 4 appearances. Meanwhile, glimpses at the set have suggested a significant time jump between the two seasons, as Eddie Munson’s (Joseph Quinn) grave and certain items across a new location suggest a two-yeartime skip to 1988.

Stranger Things Season 5 Update Makes Us A Little Concerned About Mike’s Role

Mike’s role in Stranger Things season 4 looked a little different than in previous instalments, but season 5 could mean an over correction happening.

With Stranger Things‘ conclusion remains a mystery for even those starring in the series, Netflix and the Duffer Brothers are going to great lengths to prevent leaks, and clues may be few for even the most attentive viewer. However, many may agree with Wolfhard’s hopes for the series, as despite some critiques of the execution, The Lord of the Rings‘ ending remains a good example of how to provide each cast member with a definitive final moment. While Netflix may be eager to expand Stranger Things‘ world, a satisfying ending could determine whether viewers want to give any spin-off a chance.
