Superman: Legacy adds a new DC Universe villain who may be setting up another major Chapter 1 “Gods and Monsters” movie. Since the SAG-AFTRA strike ended this month, Hollywood productions are able to resume filming and casting, including James Gunn’s upcoming DC Universe. The DC Studios co-CEO is getting ready for his first DC Universe movie, which will be Superman: Legacy, featuring David Corenswet as the big screen’s latest Man of Steel.

Deadline reports that María Gabriela De Faría has landed the role of Angela Spica aka The Engineer as part of the Superman: Legacy cast. However, The Engineer is tied to The Authority, who are rumored to appear in the movie ahead of their own solo movie on the DC Universe slate. De Faría’s body of work includes The Excorism of God, as well as the TV shows Deadly Class, The Moodys, and Animal Control.

How Superman: Legacy Sets Up The Authority Movie

Ever since the Superman: Legacy casting process began, it has been reported that at least a few members of The Authority will be featured in some capacity. For the time being, DC Studios hasn’t made it clear one way or another if they are actually planning to feature The Authority. However, with De Faría’s casting, Superman: Legacy could be gearing up to actually set up The Authority movie that is in the works.

Superman: Legacy could explore perhaps the origin story of The Engineer and any other member of The Authority that may get added. Despite the fact that Gunn has stated that this DC Universe will already have a lot of superheroes established, there are bound to be some heroes who are just getting started, similar to Corenswet’s Clark Kent. Since there is another character who uses the name The Engineer, perhaps Superman: Legacy could plant the seed for how Angela takes over that mantle.

While it has yet to be confirmed, Lex Luthor is rumored to be in Superman: Legacy as a villain.

With The Authority being relatively new to the mainstream audience, it will be interesting to see how the general DC Universe crowd responds to those characters. Hopefully, as they have at least one member of The Authority cast, this will get more movement on the solo movie too. As Superman: Legacy is gearing up to start production in March 2024, more casting news is likely set to come out in the coming weeks and months.
