How Twins 2 Movie Plans Were Spoiled By Arnold Schwarzenegger According To Danny DeVito -TGN

  • Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger missed their chance to make a Twins sequel due to Schwarzenegger becoming governor.
  • The planned Triplets movie, which would have featured Tracy Morgan as another long-lost brother, was also derailed by producer Jason Reitman.
  • DeVito and Schwarzenegger are currently working on another movie together, although it is not a sequel to Twins.

Danny DeVito reveals how Twins 2 plans were spoiled by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Already established as a global action movie megastar, Schwarzenegger in 1988 proved his comedy chops starring as straight-laced Julius in Twins, with DeVito perfectly cast as his mismatched hoodlum brother Vincent. Directed by Ivan Reitman, the hilarious two-star comedy vehicle grossed $216 million worldwide. Over thirty years later, there has still never been a sequel to the original hit, and it looks like there may never be one, as plans for a follow-up recently fell through.

But the most recent attempt at making a Twins sequel was in fact not the first time the original movie’s stars considered revisiting their classic characters. In an interview with GQ, DeVito revealed that he and Schwarzenegger wanted to make Twins 2 years ago, but politics got in the way. Check out DeVito’s remarks below:

And then Arnold (Schwarzenegger) and I want to work together. We missed Twins 2, because he became governor—which, he should have done Twins 2 instead of becoming governor. Now we have a little thing going, a little project that we’ve been chatting about.

Triplets Would Have Been A Great Twins Sequel (But Jason Reitman Blew It Up)

DeVito and Schwarzenegger may have missed their chance to make Twins 2 years ago thanks to the latter’s political ambitions, but they did later get another chance, thanks to the planned Triplets movie. Originally meant to star Eddie Murphy as the twins’ other long-lost brother, the film eventually cast Tracy Morgan as the third member of the titular triplets. Unfortunately, the project never came to fruition, and according to Schwarzenegger himself, there was a single culprit behind it all: producer Jason Reitman. As Schwarzenegger told THR back in May:

Jason Reitman f–ked it up! Jason Reitman literally stopped the project when his father died. His father wanted to do it really badly. I wanted to do it really badly. Danny DeVito wanted to do it really badly. We had the financing. When his father passed away, Jason says, “I never liked the idea” and put a hold on it. I’m developing another movie with Danny; he’s so much fun to work with and so talented.

What other movie Schwarzengger and DeVito have cooking now is yet to be revealed, but DeVito confirmed to GQ that it’s not another stab at Twins 2. Sadly, it seems Julius and Vincent have missed their best chances to ever reunite on-screen, and continue the wacky adventures they kicked off back in 1988. Hopefully, the stars do get their shot at working together again, in a new project that gives them a chance to flash the great chemistry they showed as the unlikeliest of siblings all those decades ago.
